Sustainability Policy Background

Cypress Falls Consulting Sustainability Policy

1. Our Commitment

Cypress Falls Consulting is committed to promoting environmental, social, and economic sustainability in all aspects of our business. Operating in British Columbia, we recognize our responsibility to protect the unique natural environment and contribute positively to the communities we serve. This policy guides our operations, client work, and employee engagement to minimize our negative impacts and maximize our positive contributions.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all employees, contractors, and operations of Cypress Falls Consulting.

3. Core Principles & Actions

We commit to the following principles through concrete actions:

A. Environmental Stewardship

  • Waste Reduction: We prioritize a "digital-first" approach to minimize paper use. We will reduce, reuse, and recycle materials in our office, adhering to local Metro Vancouver / British Columbia guidelines for waste, composting, and recycling.
  • Energy & Emissions: We will minimize energy consumption by using energy-efficient equipment and promoting conscious habits (e.g., turning off lights and electronics).
  • Sustainable Travel: We will prioritize virtual meetings to reduce travel needs. For necessary local travel, we encourage the use of public transit, cycling, and carpooling. For essential air travel, we will consolidate trips and offset associated emissions.
  • Sustainable Purchasing: We will prioritize purchasing products and services from local, ethical, and environmentally responsible suppliers. This includes choosing products with recycled content and minimal packaging.

B. Social Responsibility

  • Community Engagement: We will support our local British Columbia community by prioritizing local suppliers and service providers. We encourage employees to engage in volunteer activities and explore opportunities for pro-bono services for local non-profits.
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: We are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace that provides a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all employees.
  • Indigenous Reconciliation: We acknowledge with respect and gratitude that we live and work primarily on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the Squamish, Musqueam, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. We also recognize that our work takes us onto the territories of many other Indigenous Peoples across British Columbia and around the world.
  • We commit ourselves to building relationships based on respect, reciprocity, and partnership. This includes continuous learning from Indigenous voices, creating opportunities to support Indigenous businesses and communities, and ensuring our practices contribute to reconciliation in meaningful and practical ways.
  • C. Economic Viability

    • Sustainable Service Delivery: We will strive to integrate sustainability considerations into our consulting services, providing advice that helps our clients achieve their goals while respecting environmental and social limits.
    • Ethical Governance: We will operate with transparency, integrity, and accountability, ensuring compliance with all relevant environmental and social regulations.

    4. Implementation and Review

Responsibility for implementing this policy rests with the firm's leadership. All employees and contractors are expected to understand and adhere to these principles. We will review this policy annually to assess our progress and identify new opportunities for improvement.
